Service to our Community – FPCL’s Thanksgiving Meal

“For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in” – Matthew 25:35 (NIV)

What a blessing it is to be able to feed our community a free Thanksgiving meal!  This year we delivered nearly 215 meals and fed almost 80 diners right here at First Pres.  Some of the leftovers were given to Sheridan Promise (formerly Venture Crew) and leftover turkey will be used to make turkey stew for our February community dinner.   Our dinner was made possible through the generous cash and food donations from over 60 of our members and over 100 members that volunteered to help set up, cook, pack, serve, deliver, and clean up on Wednesday and Thursday.   A curious Costco shopper asked why we were in line to buy so many dinner rolls all at one time.  When this shopper learned that they would be used for FPCL’s Thanksgiving dinner … that shopper picked up the cost of all of the dinner rolls … Wow! … What a blessing!  Our Thanksgiving meal could not have been accomplished without the help of Daniel Kurtz, our chef, and his crew as well as Roberta Wheeler who was in charge of organizing all of the meals to be delivered.  Finally, a special thanks to Cheryl Baughman who chaired the entire event.  Cheryl was so moved by the support that First Pres gives this event,  that she has agreed to do it again next year!
