STEPS FOR EXPLORING THIS WEEKS’ LESSON – THE GOOD NEWS OF EASTER!

STEP 1) Read scripture together:

  • Read: Jesus Has Risen- Matthew 28:1-10(NIV) – 1 After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb. 2 There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it. 3 His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow. The guards were so afraid of him that they shook and became like dead men. The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples: ‘He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him.’ Now I have told you.” So the women hurried away from the tomb, afraid yet filled with joy, and ran to tell his disciples. Suddenly Jesus met them. “Greetings,” he said. They came to him, clasped his feet and worshiped him. 10 Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid. Go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee; there they will see me.”
  • Discuss: Pretend you were one of Jesus’ friends going to check on his body on Easter morning. When you arrive, you find that Jesus is gone! How do you feel? Then there is a giant earthquake, an angel tells you Jesus has risen from the dead! Do you believe the angel? Jesus coming back to life on Easter morning was amazing news for everyone! Not only was Jesus alive, but it means that he really is the Son of God, the Savior!

Step 2) Watch the Children’s Sermon Video together:

  • Watch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hp2jonN4b4c&list=PLWzu5Hp1aUXkCc5M15wLIX_ebsmgCjo4t&index=5
  • Discuss: Do you remember the story of how a caterpillar turns into a butterfly? What are the steps? Do you remember how this can remind us of the story of Easter? When we believe in Jesus, we too become beautiful butterfly! What kind of butterfly would you look like?
  • Imagine You’re a Butterfly Coloring Page
    • Think about what it means that when we believe in Jesus we are transformed into a beautiful butterfly!
    • Think about what you would look like if you were a butterfly. Why kinds of beautiful designs and colors would you have on your wings?
    • Color this coloring page to look you “you as a butterfly”

STEP 3) Watch/Listen/Sing “Christ the Lord has Risen Today” (This is a really fun, upbeat twist for kids on an old beloved classic 😊)

  • Watch/Listen/Sing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mrW7caM5-Kw
