Middle School Mission Trip – 2016

“As the Father has loved me, so I have loved you; abide in my love.” John 15: 9

The very first middle school mission trip at First Presbyterian Church of Littleton was an incredible success! A group of 6 middle school students, served with their whole heart and souls all while working incredibly hard. The relationships they built with those they worked with along with each other will be life time memories.

We had a jam-packed 2 day mission trip adventure including an incredibly fun night at Jump Street. Our days included: morning devotionals, packing lunch for the day, heading out to our mission sight to work all day, coming back to church for dinner, worship together, debriefing from our day and fun group bonding games at night. It’s no wonder us leaders were so completely exhausted by the time Saturday morning came around! Yet in exhaustion is joy, because every moment with these youth is wonderful and life giving.

What a honor it is to sped two days in service with middle school students!  On our first day, we filled back packs for students in low income families in JeffCo with the Action Center. In one day we filled over 1,000 backpacks, and by the end of the week over 5,000 backpacks were filled by the Action Center and their volunteers! During the day our students had the opportunity to interact with the families and students picking out their school supplies. Each student was allowed to pick out the back pack they wanted from the large supply of donated back packs. They also received a bag full of the essentials they would need each year. Our youth enjoyed getting to speak with families and were honored at the gratitude shown to them for helping these families get the necessary supplies for school.

We absolutely loved working with the Action Center and will be working with them again. They were incredibly grateful for all our students were able to do, and we were even asked to come back! As a leader of middle school to be asked back to serve, well there is nothing better!

On our second day we continued our relationship with David Clifton Ministries working stocking their food pantry, and filling boxes of food for families. We enjoyed working with our ministry partners and getting to know different volunteers who were present during the week. It was wonderful to be working with them when their doors were open and to see how they were interacting with their clients.

This trip was life giving for all of us. I am humbled to be these kids leader. Watching them work hard and care for the work they did brings shouts of Joy from my soul! They served in the name of Christ loving their neighbor and caring for the community of Denver. We will for sure be continuing with a middle school mission trip in the summer, and they even asked that it go longer because they loved it so much! What more could we ask for! Kids wanting to spend more time in service, praise God! What an incredible group of middle school students!
