FPCL is Proud of our Eagle Scouts!

All members of First Presbyterian are cordially invited.  The big event this month is the Troop 444 Eagle Court of Honor, to be held on Saturday, November 19th at 5:00 p.m., in the Sanctuary of FPCL.  Refreshments will be served afterward.   At FPCL, this is a ceremony repeated over an eighty-eight year history, at our church for over three hundred young men.  However this November, it will be the tale of four ordinary young men who are about to be taken into a fraternity with a life-long distinction that will affect their self image for as long as they live.

Since 1928, FPCL has been instrumental for the incredible service of the 444 program.  Without FPCL’s charter sponsorship, there would not be a 444 program.  We can be very proud of this parental and scout run program to build young men.

Four Eagle scouts are to be celebrated: Alan Joseph McDonald, Connor Joseph O’Meara, Porter Steven Neyer,   and Oliver Keith Watkins.  Each scout has fulfilled the life skills required to advance five ranks, accumulating at least 21 merit badges and completing a community project.  Years of steady advancement has given all four young men opportunities to grow and to apply their talents in leadership of themselves and the troop.

To complete their Eagle rank, each scout is required to propose, to fund, and to build a community project to give-back.  AJ McDonald designed, built and installed a stairway entrance, planted grass stopping erosion and restored the trail for Bufflehead Lake at South Platte Park.  Conner O’Meara re-landscaped the north entrance to Ft. Logan National Cemetery.  Porter Neyer built and installed split log benches at the Highlands Ranch Back Country activity center.  Oliver Watkins installed chain link fencing at Bear Creek Lake Park to save the trees from the beavers.

Their accomplishment is worthy of a celebration!  If you have children or grandchildren, in my opinion, you could not do better than bring them to attend this solemn program and get information about 444.  Our troop 444 is a well oiled, scout led BSA organization giving young men positive adult-youth relationships, leadership role opportunities and the acquisition of life skills to benefit them into manhood.  FPCL’s partnership with 444 is giving young men a role modeling for God and Country.  They will never be the same again.
