Adventures with Grandparents celebrates the American Flag and learns from Scout Troop 444

On Monday, July 22, the Adventures with Grandparents program theme was “Our Flag”.

The group heard stories about the origins of the flag, including how the flag design has changed throughout the years and the many places we see the flag and how we pay tribute to it. Noah and Nick led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance!

After a story about the history of the Liberty Bell, which was cast at the Whitechapel Foundry in London, (just as FPCL’s tower bell and handbells were!), the kids rang the church bell before heading outside.

Under the shade of the big tree, the group heard from the Scouts, and enjoyed flag themed snacks, crafts and games!

Four scouts from FPCL’s own Troop 444 presented a very interesting program on the symbolism of the American Flag’s design elements, how to fold the flag and the meaning of each fold, and how their troop respectfully discards the flag with dignity when it is worn. They finished by sharing about Scouting America, the meaning of their badges and ranks, and how they earn their honors.

It was a lovely morning! A huge thanks to everyone who participated, helped plan or spread the word, set up and/or take down. Another great team effort!
